Established in 1883, Kingsland is about an hour northwest of Austin, approximately halfway between Marble Falls and Llano, along the junction of the Llano and Colorado arms of Lake LBJ. Kingsland offers two golf courses, with vibrant neighborhoods built around each. The Legends is a par 72 championship course with views of Lake LBJ, and, renovated in 2006, Lighthouse Country Club is a semi-private, 18-hole golf course located at the headwaters of Lake LBJ.

First held in 1970, Kingsland’s Aqua Boom is a Fourth of July celebration, and for many Lake LBJ residents, it’s one of the highlights of the summer. Water, land, and kid’s parades are held with live music, water ski shows, “Rubber Ducky” and “Wacky Raft” races, and evening fireworks.

A well-kept secret favored by locals, the Kingsland Slab is a section of the Llano River, on FM 3404 about 2 miles west of RR 1431, created by a huge outcropping of pink granite beneath the Llano River. Find plenty of natural swimming and wading holes, sandy beaches, and smooth rocks for laying out. Shallow, sandy-bottomed areas are perfect for the kids, while deep areas are big enough for a full-body dip. Miniature waterfalls and rushing rapids span the granite outcrops. Stay on the waterbed. If you step too far off, you could be found trespassing.

Visit the public boat ramp at the Kingsland Community Park where amenities include a pavilion and community building that can be rented for use for events and parties. Downloadable fishing maps of the lake and surrounding areas are available in the map section of the LCRA website and commercial maps are available at area tackle and sporting goods stores. Lake LBJ’s white crappie population is the best of any of the Highland Lakes chain. Flathead, blue, and channel catfish are abundant.
